Today, being anonymous is almost impossible, <beat> but there are still things we would like to keep private. <beat>
1/5 young people suffer from mental illness,<beat> and only 4% of the total health care budget is spent on our mental health. <beat> A third of South Africans suffer from mental health <beat> and 75% of them will not receive treatment. <beat>
Mental health care is underfunded in South Africa <beat> and there is not enough resources to go around. <beat> This means that teenagers struggling with mental health <beat> need to relay on their family or friends for support. <beat> However, the fear of “being judged” <beat> by their friends and family is a large barrier for them.<beat>
Mental health care must be de-institutionalised <beat>so that community-based care can be set up in a systematic way. <beat>
