Think of the number 969
How does it sound?
Now what does the sound look like?
And what can we create from this?
This is my
“Number Soundation Experiment”
number: an arithmetical value, expressed by a word, symbol, or figure, representing a particular quantity and used in counting and making calculations.
sound: vibrations that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a person’s or animal’s ear.
sound wave: a wave of compression and rarefaction, by which sound is propagated in an elastic medium such as air
(sound wave frequency: f = V / λ)
foundation: an underlying basis or principle.

soundation: the underlying basis or principle of vibrations from sound that travel through the air or another medium and can be heard when they reach a person’s or animal’s ear.
Number soundation:
The idea for this project came from a quote in the book Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Pi explains how he changed his name from Piscine to Pi (π). He says,
“And so, in that Greek letter that looks like a shack with a corrugated tin roof, in that elusive, irrational number with which scientists try to understand the universe, I found refuge.”
He gives a very non mathematical, descriptive image of π.
Just like Pi this project will give sound waves a new description. The project wants to move away from the math behind it and change (f = V / λ) into art, that even myself can understand.
Thus acknowledging the foundation of numbers behind sound but giving it new perspective and new life.
