numerology
njuːməˈrɒlədʒi

- the branch of knowledge that deals with the occult significance of numbers.
Occult? Hmmmm.
occult
ɒˈkʌlt,ˈɒkʌlt
noun
- mystical, supernatural, or magical powers, practices, or phenomena.”a secret society to study alchemy and the occult”
This is really interesting to me because to me Numbers are something rational because math and science is rational. We use numbers to understand things rationally. Now why when you play with the word number and change it to numerology we fall down Alice’s rabbit hole into the unknown of the irrational.

I did some research on
Number symbolism and this is where I found my answer
“Mathematics is the study of numbers, shapes, and related structures. Number mysticism belongs elsewhere and is generally categorized as numerology.”

Okay so “numbers” have the best of both worlds
So I went deeper into the symbolism side of things and as we all know the number 13 probably takes home the bacon when it comes to supernatural numers.
Why is 13 so unlucky?

Firstly 13 falls right after 12 – twelve is seen as a perfect number and shame 13 is probably just jealous.
- In the Bible, Judas Iscariot, the 13th guest to arrive at the Last Supper, is the person who betrays Jesus.
- The treacherous and mischievous god Loki arrived as the 13th guest, upsetting the balance of the 12 gods already in attendance at a dinner party in Valhalla.
- More than 80 percent of hi-rise buildings in the United States do not have a 13th floor
- Vast majority of hotels, hospitals and airports avoid using the number for rooms and gates.
